DVR Guide - VXM4B

The Concept Pro VXM4B DVR is a highly specified CCTV recorder available in 4. 8 and 16 channels.

The design criteria was to produce a DVR which included all the functions users of alternative models have requested.

Many of the features like 2-way audio are only found on much more expensive DVRs.

Key Features

Programming the VXM4

Simple Graphical User Interface

Programming the VXM4 is simple thanks to the intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI). The menus and setup steps are presented in a logical manner allowing detailed configurations to be set up with ease.

USB Stick

When the setup is completed the configuration can be saved to a local USB memory stick and transferred to other VXM4 units. The installer can keep a record of the configuration allowing a quick setup of a similar unit or to restore a customer's system to the preferred settings.

Remote Programming

Virtually all VXM4 parameters can be programmed, saved and uploaded over a LAN/WAN connection.

Recording Setup

As a basic setting the VXM4 can be set to record manually, by timer, alarm or motion detection.

Full flexibility of the recording parameters allows the system to be tailored to your exact requirements.

Each individual channel can be configured on a weekly, daily and hourly basis to record either by schedule, alarm input or motion detection.

In addition, each channel can be configured on a weekly, daily and hourly basis for image resolution, frame rate, audio recording and image quality.

A typical example might be a VXM4 configured to record continuously at lower frame rates during the day and then at higher frame rates on motion detection during the night. Hence, saving hard drive storage space.

In an emergency, the panic button or external panic input will override all other recording settings with specific panic recording settings. This means you will always achieve the best quality recording at the time of an incident.

Typical recording times are shown below. The VXM4 is supplied with a storage calculator, allowing you to vary the recording settings to achieve the required recording times.

The VXM4 series DVR offers high resolution recording at the following levels:

SIF 352 x 288

2SIF 704 x 288

D1 704 x 576

Each channel can be independently set. For example if channel 1 a d 2 are looking at the front and rear entrances of a building you could set these to record at D1 resolution. Channel 3 and 4 may be simply be watching the reception area so recording at SIF resolution is adequate and will save disk space.

System Checks

Hard Drive Monitoring

The VXM4 uses SMART technology to check the status of the hard drives. Each hard drive constantly monitors its own operating parameters - if abnormalities are detected the VXM4 will indicate an alarm. It can be programmed to send an alarm email notification.

Watchdog Function

The firmware is monitored every 5 seconds. Any abnormalities are reported or in extreme circumstances the watchdog system will automatically reboot the system in an attempt to clear errors.

If a power cut happens on site, the watchdog ensures the DVR restarts cleanly and continues recording once power has been restored. All without user intervention.

Remote Connection

An essential part of modern DVRs is the ability for the images to be viewed across a Local Area Network or the Internet. The VXM4 series excels in this area with the addition of functional set-up from a remote location.

The software included to connect a VXM4 over a LAN/Internet provides access to virtually all functions available from the front panel of the VXM4, such as live viewing and playback, archiving  of live or historic footage an VXM4 configuration.

With additional features such as multiple VXM4 connections, two way audio transmission and the ability to remotely trigger VXM4 outputs, the remote client software can easily be configured to form the basis of a remote monitoring station.

The VXM4 settings can be uploaded to a local PC file and can then be used to configure additional VXM4 units allowing rapid deployment of multiple VXM4s in the field.
